We’re building a more robust and accurate picture of health in America.

A New Era in Health Research

The National Hispanic Health Research Institute (NHHRI) exists to elevate and expand research focused on the health and well-being of Hispanic and other disenfranchised communities, including those in rural areas across the United States.

We are building an institute to address gaps in healthcare equity and redefine how health is measured, delivered, and experienced. As a national voice for health for all disenfranchised communities, NHHRI works to shape federal priorities, inform public policy, and ensure our communities are no longer treated as an afterthought in national healthcare strategy. .
   Our work includes:

  • Building a national collaborative of trusted, culturally rooted organizations serving Hispanic communities.

  • Elevating community leadership and knowledge through The National Population Health Data Platform.

    • In collaboration with the University of Connecticut’s Institute for Latina/o, Caribbean and Latin American Studies, the School of Engineering, as well as the Health Disparities Institute at UConn Health, NHHRI will empower communities nationwide as co‑creators of knowledge with shared governance.

  • Hosting conferences, trainings, and workshops to advance evidence-based practice and community-engaged research, in collaboration with various organizations.

  • Offering technical assistance to help community partners pursue, secure, and manage research funding.

  • Providing mentorship and education in research methodology and culturally responsive ethics, delivered in partnership with various organizations.

  • Co-developing and implementing research protocols grounded in cultural humility and community needs.
