Community Knowledge as National Science Infrastructure

Speaker: Laura Chanchien Parajón

Strategic Focus: Community knowledge as scientific infrastructure.

For generations, communities have generated knowledge about health, lived experience, and the factors that shape well-being, yet these insights have rarely been recognized as foundational evidence within national research systems. This session explores how community knowledge can become a core component of scientific infrastructure and help shape the future of health research.

The discussion will examine how artificial intelligence, research governance, and scientific standards can be designed to value lived experience alongside traditional forms of evidence. Participants will explore the policies, frameworks, and partnerships needed to ensure that communities are not simply contributors to research, but architects of the systems that define how knowledge is generated, validated, and applied to improve health.
