Strategic Focus: Building a national trust architecture for AI-enabled health systems.
As artificial intelligence becomes embedded in healthcare and public health, the success of national health systems will depend not only on technological innovation, but on public trust. This National Strategic Design Lab brings together leaders in health policy, governance, implementation science, and community engagement to examine the structures needed to ensure AI-enabled health systems are transparent, accountable, and worthy of the confidence placed in them.
Panelists will explore how governance, data sovereignty, and stewardship can protect communities while enabling innovation at national scale. The discussion will address who has authority over health data, how patients, Tribal Nations, clinicians, healthcare organizations, and communities participate in oversight, and what safeguards are needed to ensure transparency, explainability, accountability, and remediation when systems fail. Together, participants will outline the framework for a national AI health system that is governed with communities—not simply for them.
