Linda Sprague Martinez, Ph.D.

Dr. Linda Sprague Martinez is a Professor in the Department of Medicine and Department of Public Health Sciences at UConn School of Medicine and the Executive Director of the UConn Health Disparities Institute, where she leads interdisciplinary research and community partnerships to address systemic health inequities. She is known for her expertise in health equity, community-based participatory research (CBPR), social determinants of health, and qualitative research methods, bringing decades of experience in academia, municipal governance, and adolescent health.  

Dr. Sprague Martinez’s academic credentials include a B.A. in Political Science from the University of New Hampshire, an M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Rivier College, and both an M.A. and Ph.D. in Social Policy from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University, reflecting broad training in policy analysis, health systems, and community engagement. She has received national recognition for her contributions to health equity research and partnerships, and her leadership at UConn emphasizes transforming evidence into action to eliminate disparities and improve community well-being.
