Dr. Valery Maya

Dr. Valery Maya is a healthcare strategist, executive leader, and health equity advocate whose career sits at the intersection of healthcare transformation, organizational growth, and community impact.

She currently serves as Chief Strategy & Growth Officer at the National Hispanic Health Research Institute (NHHRI) and Chief of Staff at Zócalo Health. Across both leadership roles, Dr. Maya works at the intersection of strategy, growth, operations, partnerships, and health equity, translating ambitious organizational priorities into measurable impact.

At NHHRI, Dr. Maya leads strategy and growth initiatives focused on expanding the organization's national reach, partnerships, programming, and impact. Her work brings together healthcare leaders, researchers, community-based organizations, and cross-sector partners to strengthen the infrastructure and collaborations needed to advance Hispanic health.

As Chief of Staff at Zócalo Health, Dr. Maya works across executive leadership, clinical operations, payer partnerships, market strategy, and organizational transformation to support the delivery and growth of culturally responsive healthcare. She helps translate enterprise priorities into execution while strengthening operational performance and partnerships with health plans and community organizations.

Previously, Dr. Maya worked in Healthcare Transformation at PwC, advising healthcare organizations on complex strategic and operational challenges. She also served as President of ALPFA Washington, D.C., where she championed professional development, community engagement, and leadership opportunities for Latino professionals.

An immigrant from Mexico, Dr. Maya brings both lived experience and an executive perspective to her work. Her leadership is grounded in the belief that improving health and economic outcomes requires better systems, stronger partnerships, and meaningful representation from the communities those systems are designed to serve.

Dr. Maya holds a Doctorate in Executive Leadership from the University of Charleston, a Master of Science in Strategy, Leadership & Management from Michigan State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Marymount University. She is also a PMP-certified professional, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, Scrum Master, and Agile practitioner.
