Ilan Shapiro, M.D., MBA, FAAP, FACHE  

Dr. Ilan Shapiro is the Chief Health Correspondent and Medical Affairs Officer at AltaMed Health Services, one of the largest federally qualified health center systems in the United States, where he integrates clinical insight, public health communication, and organizational strategy to expand access to care for diverse communities. In this role, he serves as both a trusted media voice and a strategic leader on health equity issues, regularly providing bilingual guidance on trending health topics and public health priorities to audiences across national television, radio, and digital platforms. Dr. Shapiro’s earlier roles at AltaMed included Medical Director of Health Education and Wellness and Medical Director for Behavioral Health, where he developed programs that significantly expanded preventive services and community outreach, particularly during the COVID19 pandemic.  

Dr. Shapiro earned his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from Universidad Anáhuac in Mexico, where he graduated with honors, and completed his pediatric residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago. He has also pursued business and health leadership training through an MBA with a focus on Healthcare Leadership and Management at Universidad Anáhuac, professional certificates from the UCLA Anderson School of Management, and is boardcertified in pediatrics. In addition to clinical and organizational leadership, he serves on the Board of Governors for L.A. Care Health Plan and is active in national health equity advocacy, emphasizing culturally responsive care, health literacy, and expanded access for historically underserved populations.
