David Farelo
David Goldsztajn Farelo is Chief Research Officer at the National Hispanic Health Research Institute, where he leads NHHRI's research strategy and helps build its capacity for community-based participatory research (CBPR). A behavioral scientist and applied AI practitioner, he believes research works best when communities help shape it from the start.
Working with young people has been a thread throughout his career. At the Boston Public Health Commission, he led research for a CDC-funded citywide violence prevention initiative and supported youth-focused prevention and healthy-relationships campaigns. He continues that commitment as a board member of SPOKE, a South Boston nonprofit that uses art to heal and strengthen communities. Through programs like YOUTHspeak, SPOKE helps Boston youth and young adults build leadership skills, find their voice, and advocate for their neighborhoods.
David is also Assistant Director of AI in Education at Boston University's Institute for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. At NHHRI, he is developing a bilingual CBPR training course for community health workers, promotores, and community members. He holds a PhD in Experimental Psychology from Florida Atlantic University and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Machine Learning and AI from UT Austin. A native Spanish speaker, he is based in Boston.Dr.
